About FOH

This site is dedicated to the development and distribution of a method for teaching history and the materials necessary to that method, that encourages students to:

  • understand what happened in the distant and recent past, and
  • apply that knowledge to the world around them
using a series of about 200 cross-referenced flowcharts and over 100 multimedia lectures to help students see history as a dynamic process of causes and effects, not just a meaningless list of names and dates.

With this website you can help bring about a revolution in the History classroom, producing students that have a deep understanding of the past and that enjoy learning about it.

Biography

John "Chris" Butler has taught world history at University High School since 1979. He has won local and national recognition for his teaching, notably the Golden Apple Award given by WICD, the local NBC affiliate, Who's Who of American Teachers, and the American Historical Association's Beveridge Family Teaching Award at the AHA's national convention in 2001.

Not that such things necessarily qualify him or anyone else to publish anything, but hopefully they are some indication that he is more than casually interested in history. His lifelong passion for history is only matched by growing fears of where we could be headed because we have lost so much historical perspective. Hopefully this will help slow the bleeding.
